About:
When traveling to foreign countries with different customs, languages, and currencies, one experiences the absence of one's own sense of order. Disorder is unsettling – until one recognizes a different principle of order.
Another form of disorder is climate change, i.e., the loss of ecological order, which manifests itself in global warming, extreme weather events, or mass extinction of species.
Can we speak here simply of a new order replacing an old one? Disorder can also lead to anarchy, a system that recognizes no rules of order or hierarchies. In that case, the law of the strongest threatens.
For photographers, this creates a playground: How can the loss of a system be depicted visually? Or something that, by definition, has no order at all? How does one describe lawlessness? And finally: Is there such a thing as anarchic photography?
From July 17th to July 26th, 2026, the Stuttgart Photo Summer, in cooperation with galleries and institutions, will present photographic works on the theme of disorder at selected locations in Stuttgart.
