OPEN CALL - MILAN IS MILAN IS MILAN
What is Milan's identity today?
Every time we pronounce the name of a city, we don't just name a place: we evoke images, expectations, stories, memories, contradictions.
Milan is a city that changes rapidly: in its spaces, its rhythms, and the people who inhabit it. It continually produces images of itself —often glossy, aspirational, and successful—that don't always match the way those who live there recognize themselves and their city.
This open call invites photographers to question the contemporary identity of Milan , a city in which historic places are disappearing or being reconverted, new forms of community are emerging, the dynamics of living and accessing the city are profoundly transformed, and the relationship between image, experience and narration is becoming increasingly complex .
The project was born from the meeting between Analog Milano , which promotes analog photography as a conscious and reflective practice, and Reflektor , a branding agency that works on the identity and communication of brands, institutions, and local realities.
Through analogue photography, this open call invites you to propose projects that go beyond stereotypes and dominant narratives , exploring a city in the midst of an urban, social and cultural transformation.
Analogue photography is here understood as a tool for slow and critical observation : a medium capable of conveying complexity, ambiguity and stratification, and of questioning the “official” image of a city that today seems to struggle to define who it is and for whom it exists.
